Just a week before I'm scheduled to leave our nation's capital, I experienced one of the definite highlights of my time here - I had lunch in the White House! In response to an inquiry from the Vice President's office I had done some work on an adoption case and, to say thank you, the woman from the VP's office who had called us took me and a colleague to lunch in the Mess Hall of the West Wing.
Above: in the White House, outside the dining room where we had lunch.
My parents came to visit for my last weekend in DC and we had a blast touring around (maybe too much of a blast since my mom went home with a swollen ankle from a fall).

We also ventured outside the District and visited Mount Vernon, Washington's estate. What a beautiful spot, right on the river, even on this incredibly windy day!

We also visited the Museum of Natural History (where I had also gone with Clay two weeks ago) just to see the amazing photos they have on temporary display there (see some examples in previous post below).

How amazing! Clay told Scott and me about your upcoming lunch at the White House last week. Were you able to meet the family you helped and the adopted child? You head home soon. I'm sure you are looking forward to it! I like the photos from the museum....oh, we let Clay borrow "Planet Earth" so when you get home plan on snuggling with Clay on the couch to watch these incredible sneak peaks into life in the wild.
