Hiking in the Rain

A couple of weeks ago we took a group of international students and scholars hiking in the Mountains. We were hoping for a beautiful day but got a typical rainy Saturday instead. Cancel? Au contraire, we forged ahead with our plans, knowing that most Saturdays in New England are unpredictable. The result? All the people who signed up to go still showed up, in spite of the weather! We had people wearing plastic bags on their sneakers and trash bags over their jackets (needless to say, some of them were unprepared). Even though some didn't bring anything for the rain but an umbrella, they all brought great attitudes. Well, there was one slight communication mishap - 2 ladies thought this was a driving trip to see the leaves. They didn't realize it was a hike in the woods in the rain. Oh well, a lot more could have gone wrong that didn't and, in the end, one scholar told me he was going to recommend to all his friends that they go hiking in the rain because he thought it was such an experience! He especially liked that from the top you could see over some of the clouds.

The leaves were also magnificent - which helped to lighten the day.

We forgot our camera, but here are some photos from the students:

Those photos are beautiful- and the leaves are magnificent!!! That's one thing you don't find out here in the desert. We miss the rain- this has been the dryest year on record for Temecula.... so I'm dreaming about the day it will rain. soak it up for us! :)
Love you two extremely,
