At the end of October my (Larissa's) mom and sister threw a bridal shower... in a Finnish sauna! Everything was against us - the weather, the traffic, things forgotten but we had a great time. I enjoyed (and the guests endured) heating ourselves in a 200 degree F wooden sauna to the point of it being unbearable and then jumping in the frigid New England lake in the pouring rain. You might think those Finns are crazy but, boy, is it invigorating!
The Finnish society where we held the shower was also an experience. Consisting of the wooden sauna on the lake, and an old hunting lodge up on a hill, it was cozy, and also strange. We had a roaring fire to enjoy our goodies by, but there was also a smoking reindeer looking down on our happenings and lot of people who didn't speak a lick of Finnish. My mom was able to educate some of these people (who belong to this Finnish society) on Finnish culture!BTW, smoking reindeers are not necessarily a part of Finnish culture - just a random part of this eclectic lodge!

I gotta experience one of these crazy sauna events sometime. It sounds like enough to put you into some serious shock, but very memorable!
Cant wait for 12/29!
